THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST

July ushered in a stalled heat dome that relentlessly hovered over Mississippi. The first weeks of July were hot days that, in a way, was atypical for Southern Mississippi. Everyone’s mind was on the Gulf Coast, a scant hour away. So, under a brilliant sun, we set out for the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Arriving in the late afternoon, we were greeted by the striking cobalt infinity of the Gulf waters. The gentle waves intermixed with the gleam of the snow-white beaches, we somehow felt the oppressive heat had lessened. But not by much.

Sunsets on the Gulf will tantalize the soul.

Laughter lingered in the thick and gooey air of the Gulf Coast.

Reserved for a shimmering sunset.

We gave thanks for the Gulf's glorious bounty.

The sun continued its' decent over the moored boats.

And finally the day slowly began to cool.

Gusts from the Gulf Stream wrapped lightly around the coastal waters.

The much celebrated cool winds began to tug at all the flags.

While the breezes blew the seagulls and the twilight into the arms of the evening.

And so we drove happily home, away from the day that was, and will never be again. But others will surely follow – better still. Even so, we will always remember the last time we saw The Mississippi Gulf Coast.
